WT4I Log Checker Step-by-Step

WT4I Log Checker (LC) is a highly interactive tool for checking logs. The power of the utility comes from its ease of use and intuitive nature, allowing the user to examine a log in many different ways. This document attempts to give the new user some examples of how the tool can be used to examine a log.

Once the user gets past the initial registration screen, LC comes up ready to load a log:

The log can be loaded into LC by selecting the "File" menu and then using the open menu item. Below is an example of a log after its initial load in to WT4I Log Checker. The main Log Checker window has 6 different regions, annotated below as A-F.

A - Menu Area The Menu Area contains pull down menus as found in any Windows application.

File

- Operations such as Save, Open ,Close.
Edit - Operations such as Edit Cabrillo Header and Raw Log Edit
View - Operations to view call signs, Dupes, Bad QSOs, etc.
Tools - Operations such as violations, summaries, etc.
Help - About and basic overview.
B - Cabrillo Header This area is contains the basic information from the Cabrillo file file header. To view the complete Cabrillo Header, select the view from the Edit menu.
C - Selection Buttons Clicking on any of the Header Selection Buttons will change the data shown in the selection area (E). For example, clicking on the header button above the "Cty" column would fill the area with a sorted list of country prefixes.
D - QSO Area The QSOs are displayed in the order as found in the log (chronological). The QSOs are color coded according to their status (dupe, bad call, bad zone, excluded, not in master). In the example below, two of the QSOs shown are color coded bad because of the missing exchange. QSOs can be editied by double clicking. QSOs can also be excluded from the log.
E - Selection Area The Selection Area is used in selecting what is shown in the QSO Area (D). Individual or multiple selections can be made by clicking and double clicking entries. The Selection Area is loaded with a sorted list of call signs on the initial load of the log. The selection area can be changed by clicking on one of the Header Selection Buttons, or selecting a different view from the Menu Area.
F - Status Line The status line contains things such as the log file name, the abbreviated score summary and the total number of QSOs.

In the example below, the user has selected the frequency Header Selection Button and then selected 40m. The QSO Area contains QSOs only from the 40 meter band.

In the example below, the user has selected view countries from view menu pull down in the menu area. Note that the user has also selected all QSOs from Aruba (P4).

In the Example below, the user has changed the selection area to include a sorted list of prefixes. The user is currently viewing QSOs with prefixes of 6YA, 9A5, and 9A3.

In the example below the user is viewing all dupes. Note that the user has full control of the colors used in WT4I Log Checker (change colors with the Tools menu).

In the example below, the checking on 3 very similar call signs. HA2XX and HA2RX are not found in the master call sign data base. The official log checker can build a master call sign data base from the call signs actually found in the logs submitted (see Master Call tool). This way, uniques can be easily spotted and appropriate action can be taken.

WT4I Log Checker has the capability to check Multi-Single and Multi-Two logs to make sure they did not violate the 10 minute rule. For the CQ WW DX contests, CLC has the capability to take into account the special multiplier provision. "One-and only one-other band may be used during the 10-minute period if-and only if-the station worked is a new multiplier." Below is a screen shot of the 10 minute violation window. A similar window is available for the 6 band change limit used in ARRL contests.

WT4I Log Checker will check your off times (see Below).

On the main WT4I Log Checker window, the basic Cabrillo Header information is displayed. The user can view and edit the entire header. Below is an example of the Cabrillo Header, screen captured.

WT4I Log Checker has the capability to view and edit the raw log. The editing capabilities are limited but this feature will come in handy if the user needs to make a quick edit. In addition to the raw log edit capability, the user can edit indiviual fields of a QSO by double clicking on the QSO in the QSO Area. For more extensive editing, Notepad or Wordpad is suggested. Here is an example of the raw log edit screen:

This should give the new user a flavor of the things a user can accomplish while using WT4I Log Checker.
